Athabasca Glacier, Columbia Icefield Skywalk, and Peyto Lake
We had nothing but positive experiences during our All-Inclusive stay at Glacier View Lodge when visiting Jasper, Canada. The all-inclusive package was a little on the pricey side, but we felt that it was well worth the cost. It included the things that we wanted to see and do in Jasper, and more. On the way to Jasper, we made a stop at Peyto Lake, which was a short hike and definitely worth visiting.
Peyto Lake
Visiting Peyto Lake was an easy stop that felt completely worth it. The walk to the viewpoint is short, which made it doable with kids, and the color of the lake is really that blue. The kids also thought it was cool that the lake looks like a wolf from above. It was crowded when we got there around midday, but we were still able to enjoy the hike and the view from the lookout point.
From the parking lot, it took about 10 minutes each way, so roughly 20 minutes total, even with kids and a few stops. It’s one of those stops where you get a big payoff without much effort.
After the hike, we were ready for our road trip towards Jasper.
All-Inclusive Package at Glacier View Lodge
Included in the package:
The drive on Icefields Parkway going to Jasper was full of spectacular sceneries. When we arrived at Glacier View Lodge, we parked our car in the parking lot and took the elevator to go up to the hotel lobby. While waiting for our room to be ready, we were welcomed with champagne, soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres at Moraine Lounge. Although the exterior of Glacier View Lodge looks outdated, the interior had been beautifully renovated. The lobby is nice and modern with a full-sized window overlooking Athabasca Glacier.
Once our room was ready, we checked into our room to freshen up and get ready for our evening tour to Athabasca Glacier. The room was clean and cozy with a beautiful view of the glacier.
The all-inclusive package included a guided evening tour to Athabasca Glacier after it was closed to the public, which was nice because we were able to spend time on the glacier with no crowd. The tour started with a shuttle ride, then we transferred to the giant Ice Explorer, which the kids thought was very neat. The Ice Explorer took us to the Athabasca Glacier, where we could step on the glacier itself, and even tasted a little bit of the glacier water. Before we left, the tour guide kindly served warm apple cider for us to enjoy while soaking in the views.
When we arrived back at the hotel, we enjoyed a delicious three-course gourmet dinner at the on-site Altitude Restaurant. After dinner, we went back to our room to get a good-night sleep after a busy day.
Gourmet Breakfast Buffet
In the morning, we had a gourmet breakfast buffet at the same restaurant, and went back to our room to pack our stuff. Before we left for our morning tour to the Skywalk, we left our luggage to be stored in the hotel’s storage room.
Morning Tour to Columbia Icefield Skywalk
Another nice perk of the all-inclusive package is the morning tour to Columbia Icefield Skywalk exclusively to hotel guests, which started one hour before it was open to the public so that it was less crowded. The glass-bottomed Skywalk offered a magnificent view of the Rockies and the Sunwapta Valley underneath. When the tour was over, we hopped on the shuttle back to our hotel to check out.
Alternate Tour
We did the Columbia Icefield Skywalk and Glacier Tour as a part of our stay at Glacier View Lodge Hotel.
But if you are not staying at this hotel, you can book a tour covering the above destinations here. It costs around $119 CAD, and they offer pickups from your hotel.
