A Hidden Gem in The Canadian Rockies – Mistaya Canyon
Mistaya Canyon is truly a hidden gem in the Canadian Rockies. The parking lot was easily accessible from the Icefields Parkway. After a short and delightful hike, we arrived at the bridge to find a scenic view of the canyon. We also walked further to get closer to the riverside to listen to the loud sound of the rushing water.
Mistaya Canyon Hiking Trail
The sign to the parking lot was clearly visible from the Icefields Parkway. We then took the short hiking trail from the parking lot to the viewing bridge. We could see the water coming from Mistaya River plunging into the narrow canyon, paired with a beautiful mountain backdrop.
Amazing Work Of Nature
This sign perfectly explains how the canyon was naturally formed over the years. In addition, the rumbling water is still actively working to carve the limestone rock. What an amazing work of nature!
We decided to walk just little further from the bridge to get closer to the water. There were some flat rocks by the water where we could sit at and listen the loud rushing water. It was such a therapeutic sound.
With caution, we took a peek inside the canyon. There was a beautiful rainbow in there.
The picturesque Mistaya Canyon was definitely worth stopping for. We kept reminding each other to be extra careful around the water because the rocks can be slippery.
