16th Street Mall in Denver, Colorado
16th Street Mall is over a mile-long pedestrian-friendly mall, with excellent restaurants, shops, and attractions. During the holiday season, check out the Mile High Tree, America’s largest digital tree, located on 16th and Welton St intersection.
We had a good time strolling along 16th Street Mall during the day, shopping, eating, and checking out the carousel in front of Denver Pavillion. At night, we did not particularly like or feel safe walking around 16th Street Mall with kids. However, the Mile High Tree was only a short walking distance from our hotel, the Grand Hyatt Denver, so we decided to check it out. There was no line when we got there on New Year’s Eve, but it was snowing that night and the temperature was freezing! It was a beautiful tree, and it was pretty cool to walk inside the tree and see the lights from a different perspective.
Our hotel told us that there were two fireworks shows on New Year’s Eve, at 9 pm and midnight. At first we did not plan to go see the fireworks and made a dinner reservation at Appaloosa Grill instead. After dinner, we decided to check out the 9pm fireworks after all.
Tips
If you had been shopping at the strip, you can show your receipt for a free carousel ride.
There are 2 shows, at 9 pm and midnight. You can view the fireworks from anywhere around 16th St Mall, but the area near the Clock Tower probably give the best view.
