Best Things To Do in Maui, Hawaii
Maui was one of those places that instantly felt special. From the moment we arrived, the mix of dramatic landscapes, laid back beaches, and scenic drives made it easy to see why people fall in love with this island. We packed a lot into our short time here. From snorkeling with sea turtles in Ka’anapali to hiking the volcanic landscapes of Haleakala National Park and exploring scenic spots around the island, these were our five favorite things to do and the experiences we would absolutely recommend.
Hiking the Sliding Sands Trail at Haleakala National Park was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The unique volcanic landscape made us feel like we were stepping on another planet.

Being one of Maui’s most iconic drives, the Road to Hana lived up to the hype. This scenic drive was filled with waterfalls, rainforest views, winding roads, and countless pull offs worth stopping for. We took our time, stopping at beaches, short hikes, and viewpoints along the way.

As soon as we arrived, a huge sea turtle was hanging out near the shore. The water was clear, the reef was close to shore, and we saw more sea turtles and plenty of tropical fish. Remember to give the animals a respectful distance and wear reef-friendly sunscreen.
This scenic hike in the Kipahulu district of Haleakala National Park took us through a massive banyan tree, beautiful waterfalls, and a bamboo forest near the end. It felt peaceful, lush, and completely different from the volcanic terrain at the summit district of Haleakala.

The northwest coast of Maui gave us some of the most dramatic views of the island. We visited Makaluapuna Point to see the Dragon’s Teeth, and watched waves crash against the rocks at Nakalele Blowhole and Honolua Bay. This area felt more rugged and less crowded, which made it even more special. Visiting Lahaina felt different knowing the impact of the fire. Walking through town and supporting local restaurants deepened our appreciation for the town’s history and the resilience of the people who call it home.
There are so much more to explore in this island. We did not get to visit these places but they’re definitely on our list for future trips.
Hiking these lush valleys and see the iconic Iao Needle rock formation was something that we originally planned to do but unfortunately did not have enough time to.
Molokini Crater was also high on our list, but we ran out of time. The clear water and vibrant marine life make this a must do for a future trip.
