Thrilling Whitewater River Rafting in Canmore, Canada
The whitewater river rafting in Kananaskis River was a fun, thrilling excursion for our family. The experience was well organized from beginning to end, and everyone had a fabulous time.
Checking In
We booked our excursion with Chinook Rafting and could not be happier with everything. The whole team was nice, friendly, funny, and most importantly, focused on safety.
The meeting place was near the Nakoda Lakeside Lodge, where we could park our car. After check-in, we were given our wet suits, vests, water shoes, helmets, and paddles. They gave us the option to change in their changing tents or in our own car. Everyone then got on the buses for a short ride to the river.
Safety Orientation and Demonstration
Before going to the river base, everyone gathered for a safety orientation. They divided everyone into smaller groups of 8 to 10 people, and assigned a group guide for each craft. Our guide, Joel, was funny, knowledgable, and wonderful with kids. He helped us feel safe and made sure we had the best experience.

Splashy Fun
The trip we booked from Chinook Rafting was the Kananaskis River rafting, which was class 2 to 3 rapids. It was great for beginners and for families with young kids. The rapids weren’t too crazy, but we still had some exciting drops and splashes and got completely soaked, which the kids loved.
End Of Tour
We spent about 2 hours on the water. Afterwards, we rode the bus back to the check-in tent to return all of the rafting gears. They also provided cookies and hot chocolate for us to enjoy at the end of the tour.
Photos For Purchase
There was an on-site photographer who did a great job at capturing the moments. After the trips, we could get the low-resolution photos for free from their website. They also sell the high-resolution photos on a USB drive for around CAD 30. The USB included photos of not only our craft, but also all the crafts in the same big group.
They let us preview the photos before purchasing, and there were a lot of great ones! It was an easy decision to buy the photos and bring home the happy memories.
Tips
Wear Your Swimsuits
Although they provided a wet suit and a vest, we recommend wearing your swimsuits underneath instead of regular clothes. You WILL get soaked!
